Search Tweets: A More Effective Following Strategy

If you are building your Twitter account(s) for a specific purpose you probably have three objectives:

1 - To grow your account with as many PEOPLE as possible
2 - To have followers who want to (and can) read your tweets
3 - To elicit some type of response from your readers...a purchase or "click on a link", etc...

Seems simple...BUT this is not the case...

Twitter is filled with "Robos" which are PCs running software that simply tweet and repeat tweets...

These drive me CRAZY!

My PC is busy enough...it doesn't have to be talking with another PC who has no buying decision-making authority!  LOL!

That is why I CAPITALIZED the word PEOPLE in your first objective...you want PEOPLE not PCs!

You also want people who care about your topic of theme...

If you are selling organic vegetables...you want vegetarians...

If you are selling iPhone apps you want iPhone users...

If you are selling a "How-to" book...you want people who need help with...

Get the picture?

The COMMON "Following" strategy...

...is to search out specific "key words" that are in an individual's profile...

There are some downsides to this strategy that many miss...

1 - Profiles are static...people change...they may never update their profile...and as time passes so does the accuracy of the profile itself!

2 - Speaking of accuracy...Profiles are not very telling of reality...they are "make-up"  I see profiles as a description of how a person wants to be seen...not what they really are...

As a result...I do not build my followings using Profile searches...

We'll talk about some effective Profile "Following" strategies in future posts...

A BETTER "Following" strategy...

You can tell a lot more about a person and what they are about...by what they tweet about!

I search out specific "key words and phrases" within tweets and follow those who use them!

These are active People...who are interested in my topic(s) enough to tweet about them!

This strategy builds accounts that are focused and active...AND are read!

How to Chase Tweets

There are Twitter Apps that chase topics for the user...

The best one that I have found so far is www.86u2.com (I am starting to repeat myself SORRY LOL!)

It has a function called "Twitter Mining" that is absolutely brilliant!

You can search and save your "Key Word/Phrase" searches on buttons...

It gives you the most current tweets related to your search and allows you to follow the "tweeter" by simply clicking on their profile pic...

Simple...Fast...and most of all it makes following a valuable and meaningful effort...

Give it a try!

Or try one of the other Twitter apps...

What matters is that you follow based on what people are actually talking about (Tweets) and not what they want you to think that are all about (Profiles)...
