The REAL Power of Tweets

"Hashtag" campaigns and more!

It has been a while since I posted some valuable advice to Twitter users...

That is because I have been reevaluating the strategy and tactics that are being used to "get messages out!"

On the surface...Twitter is only effective if a user has a large following...

That is in part true and an effective strategy...

This strategy however has its weaknesses...

A Twitter account's following has to be constantly growing and refreshed!!!

If a person is a celebrity...and has millions of followers...this is OK...

Most of us however are lucky to have 5,000 or 10,000 followers...and many of them are "Robos!"

Somewhat by chance...and somewhat because I was looking...I came across another tactic that works for me equally well!

Anyone who has used Twitter to any extent has seen or used "hashtags"

They are simply a key-word or phrase of acronym preceded with a #.  An example is #Followback

People can search out and capture "hashtags" and do!

It is the way that people can receive messages from users that they do not follow and send messages to those who do not follow them!

Moreover...there are applications that allow for the simply identification of key words or phrases and the consolidation of those "tweets" in a timeline!

TweetDeck and www.86u2.com have this functionality...

Both management applications also allow the user to follow the individual who used the phrase or key word...

Many Twitter users (who are subject oriented) communicate across the Twitter world simply by using "hashtags!

Has the light gone on yet?

You do not need to have millions of followers to "tweet" to millions of followers!

You need to find the right keywords and hashtags!

You can also build followings of specific hashtags!

When properly executed...an account can have literally NO FOLLOWERS and get their message out to millions of individuals!

Want to know more...?

Leave me a comment and I'll explain!

  1. With Twitter...Simply go to the menu-bar item "#Discover" and you'll be taken to a new page...in the search bar...type the hashtag you are searching for... Try it with #TMTM

In TweetDeck you can create a "New Column" and have it only search out and list a specific hashtag...

In www.86u2.com the application called Twitter Mining allows you to search out hashtags, keywords and phrases. It lists users that have tweeted them and the phrase. You can then follow them or send a tweet with the corresponding hashtag.

  2. One other neat item under Twitter's #Discover is a list of Trending or most frequently hashtags and key words/phrases. Many individuals will use the trending hashtag and send messages to those using the hashtag!
